Led by local men and women who individually and jointly volunteer their time and service to the Norwalk.

The Norwalk Lions Club has been serving the community of Norwalk since 1946. The club consists of local men and women from all walks of life who share a serious commitment to community service and improvement. They believe that by working together they can accomplish far more than would be possible as individuals. There are 1.35 million Lions Clubs worldwide belonging to 46,000 clubs in 206 countries. Organized in 1917, Lions Clubs International has been united in a single cause; helping those less fortunate. In 1987,Lions Clubs International became one of the first service clubs to admit women. The mission of the Lions International is "To empower volunteers to serve their communities, meet humanitarian needs, encourage peace and promote international understanding through Lions Clubs".

It is no secret that the Norwalk Lions have fun making money. Over the years fundraising has varied from selling brooms to selling roses. In the late 1970's, the Bader family invited the Norwalk Lions to operate the "beer booth" concession at Norwalk Raceway Park. This partnership has evolved into the major fundraising project for the Lions from April through October. Members coordinate the operations, planning, and staffing of the beer booth all summer long. At the large events, the Norwalk Club enlists the help from neighboring Lions from Milan and North- Fairfield.

In 2013 the Norwalk Lions will again direct the 43rd Norwalk City Fourth of July Parade. Members spend countless hours organizing and coordinating this annual event. The Norwalk Lions have made it priority to provide eyeglasses for local individuals who do not have the resources to purchase their glasses. The Lions also collect used eyeglasses for distribution in third world countries. Other programs supported by the Lions are high school scholarships, Meals on Wheels, First Book, the Senior Center, and the local park and recreation department.

There are now approximately 63 active members in the club, but we are always looking for new members to maintain and expand our service. If you are interested in making a difference, check out our website or contact us by sending a brief email, including your name and contact information, to info@norwalklions.org.
